The employee in this civilian position serves as a liaison between the Bureau of Police, the community and the officers in the field and is responsible for both advising the Bureau command staff of citizen/community concerns and serving as a Police Bureau representative in the field to organize citizens against crime and present a positive message of work being done by police to encourage citizen-police partnership. Work also includes but is not limited to planning, organizing, and implementing community policing/crime prevention programs in order to provide residents with a clearer understanding of police operations, procedures and constraints. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Chief of Police, with latitude given for some degree of independent action. This is a management, FLSA-exempt position. Qualified applicants must have a Bachelors degree from an accredited university of college in communications, public administration or related field and experience in news media relations or public relations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid drivers license, class C, or equivalent. Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation. Annual salary $50,000.00, plus benefits. The successful candidate must be a resident within the corporate limits of the City of Harrisburg, or willing to move yourself (and your immediate family, if applicable) into the corporate limits of the City of Harrisburg within twelve months from date of hire.
